How to inspect a family property in India when you live abroad

A useful inspection is a sequence: access, rooms, utilities, neighbours, and a written close. It is not a single photograph of the front door.

If you have not stood in a family flat for several years, you do not need a motivational message. You need a way to see the property.

Start with access. Who has the keys. Does the society require your name on a visitor list. Is there a tenant who must be given notice. A coordinator who arrives without that information will wait at the gate, and you will pay for a failed visit.

Then decide what “inspect” means for you. Condition of wet areas. Signs of seepage. Whether anyone is living there. Whether the meter is running. Whether the society has posted a notice on the board. Write those questions down. A report that answers your questions is more valuable than fifty unstructured photographs.

Kalyan Mitraa treats an inspection as a scoped visit with photos, optional video, and a written note. We do not certify title. We do not replace a structural engineer. If those professionals are required, we help you connect. The point of the first visit is to stop guessing.

After the report, you can choose: a repair, a legal consultation, a tenant conversation, or simply a date for the next check. Distance is then a logistics problem, not a feeling of helplessness.
